    Hi Ranvir

Yes I do it and it works its helps to dissolve the kalkwasser (slake lime) more and adding a carbon source for the bacteria.

This is known as the slurry method of adding kalk and works very well, although i never added the vinegar but after reading this article i will definatly rethink that.

Wow, I will explain the quantities i use safely and you can break them down to your system size. Remember my system is nearly 3000L, i use 2tsp kalk, to that i would add about 4tsp of vinegar (from now on) and mix into a slurry then add a litre of ro water. Mix it up again and pour slowly into my display infront of one of my circulation pumps. On a smaller system you may want to reconsider this method and use a 2 part solution, as it is very easy to OD on kalk with dire results, the reason i started to use the method is purely from a cost point of view but have found there are many benifits to adding kalk to your system. Just be very careful with the dosages of the kalk.

Do you have an auto top up system? If you do,this is what I do for my system. I mix 2 teaspoon of kalk with 4 parts of vinegar to desolve the kalk more with a cup of RO water, stirr it and throw it in your auto top up system. You can also ad a extra pump in your auto top up system to circulate the kalk more. But if you dont have a auto top up system then the slurry method that Alan suggeted will work.So in your case half a teaspoon of kalk and one teaspoon of vinegar I think will work.

I have used it, great article, but ppl keep saying don't use kalk. So I stopped, seems to be used often in the states, check out the latest coral mag, that SPS tank in there uses kalk.

+- 300l but I dont use the slurry method, the slurry method like Alan suggested is mixing it and throwing it directly into your tank. If you want to dose kalk and be safe a auto top up system will be safer. I will rather dose 1/4 spoon of kalk with one part of vinegar to be safe.

I kinda skim read this link while trying to do some work, but is there a reason why we can't use say a litre of tank 'sea water' mixed with the kalk & vinegar instead of RO?
