HI THERE:wave2: , I'M NICOLENE AND FROM NELSPRUIT IN MPUMALANGA. I'M VERY NEW TO MARINE AQUARIUM AS A HOBBY AND STARTED OF VERY NAIVE AND UNIFORMED. I WAS VERY EAGER TO GET A TANK UP AND RUNNING AND THEN HAD TO LEARN A FEW LESSONS. I WAS SOLD THE WRONG TYPE OF TANK AND SOON MY FISH STARTED DYING, IF ONLY I DID SOME RESEARCH FIRST .

LUCKILY I FOUND A NEW FRIEND AND SUPPLIER THAT WILL HELP ME TO BUILD A PROPER MARINE AQUARIUM WHERE MY FISHES AND CORALS CAN LIVE A HAPPY DISEASE FREE LIFE.

I CAN'T WAIT TO GET THE RIGHT INFORMATION AND TANKS AND TOOLS FROM YOU GUYS.

    hey nicolene, welcome to MASA:)

marines is a wonderful watery world, but mother nature can be rather unforgiving if you dont follow some basic rules and then the whole hobby seems rather bewildering and confusing. Dont worry we will do all we can to help you and your tank along the way. Masa has some great reefers and as a collective "brains trust" there is no better place to answer any question you might have. Dont be shy, ask us anything about marines you like, we will do all we can to help you along the way.

oh, just dont shout at us, we are only 30 cm away from you (the distance to your pc) so typing in caps isnt needed, we can read just fine in normal type :)

why dont ytou start by telling us what sort of tank you have and what sort of equipment you have to run it. Then we can advice you on what you need to do to get the best performance and possibly what you need to upgrade to keep certain marine creatures happy.

what are the dimensions of the tank?
    does it have an overflow?
    does it have a sump?
    does it have a skimmer?
do you have any internal pumps?
    do you have any lights?
how about noodles and ceramic rings?

lets start there for now....oh and a pic is very useful in us helping you out so post a few on here if u will :)

welcome to masa and happy postings :)

Welcome and yes many many "reefers" have been down the road of starting wrong due to bad info from commission earners so don't feel bad.
All I can say is - there is only one stupid question and that is the one that isn't asked.
Gr8 ideas and brains are here to assist so post pic's and we will be in a better position to help you get a healthy reef going - but patience is a strong requirement in this venture.

A VERY WARM WELCOME to MASA, Nicolene! Great to have you on-board!

It is EXTREMELY unfortunate, that you have ONLY gotten to us, now, after having trouble with your marine tank.
It is great that you did not give up - but decided to search for information on the internet.

Now - you have found a site, which collectively, has a HUGE amount of experience and knowledge, on keeping marine tanks successfully.

Everyone here, has made some mistakes, in the lifetime of their marine tanks. So - everyone here, has learnt from these issues.

So - with access to a really decent database of knowledge, soon, you will too be able to start all over, be successful, and have a FANTASTIC future, w.r.t your marine reef tank!

Good luck - read as much as you can - ask as many questions as you can.
And PLEASE REMEMBER: PATIENCE is the BIGGEST secret in this hobby - one requires a HUGE amount of patience. And knowledge is the biggest weapon you could have!

Rather ask, and search - BEFORE you go out to purchase ONE SINGLE thing!

Good luck - and enjoy! It's an amazing world!
