    Howzit,

    We got our tank about 2 years ago, 1.2M X 0.5M and a sump we were told take a few fiter thingys... including Bio Balls.... which we have purchased... we also got the skimmer and 5 pumps, 3 for circulation in the DT, and one as the return pump and 1 for the skimmer...

    Duno all the specs and types of equipment but ill get it and add tho the thread...

    anyway, after 2 years with the above equipment, we finally starting to put it to gether...

    From what we could gather reading up on the subject again... theres one big change since we first wanted to do this thing.... Deep sand bed and no to bio balls.... if we understood correctly that is...

    This weekend we modified the sump which was split into 5 partitions to 3 partition sump so that we could add the deep sand bed... and we filled the tanks with tap water to test the equipment, my plumbing and check for leaks - all good so far. Ill post the images later... we have questions that we will post as we go...

    Hey Gareth, welcome to the dark side at last chap!

    One word of caution though, and I am probably preaching to the choir, but drain that tap water out and refill with RO before adding salt. Tap water in Joeys is rather nasty for a tank.

    Thanks all,

    1st Q,
    if my sump setup is as follows,

    A B C

    A = Inlet, Skimmer

    B = DSB

    C = Return

    The skimmer outlet is supplying B, should the water level be allowd to rise and overflow to B aswell or should it just be the skimmer supplying B?

    Hope the Q is understanable.... duno how to explain better without the pictures... ill upload them tomorrow

    Perfect :thumbup:

    Yes, the water level will rise in the first chamber and overflow into the 2nd chamber. But....what skimmer have you got? It might be better to have the skimmer outlet supplying chamber A instead of going into B.

    Welcome to the forum :)

    welcome, nice to hear that youb are dusting off that equipment. :)

    sump sounds good, try give us a pic so we can see if there is any tweaking you need to do before fulling it with RO water.

    Do you ahve a RO unit btw? for a 1.2 you will probably need one in the long run.

    welcome and best of luck with the tank :)

    nah thats cool - let the water overflow from A to B, as well as have your skimmer pump from A to B. Some set ups have ALL the water go through the skimmer, but usually it needs to be a "help me get it in the car" size skimmer.

    Word of advice - WASH YOUR SAND before it goes in the DSB - unless you want fine dust/mud in all your brand new pumps.

    Welcome to MASA. You can get cheaper but decent skimmers for your tank. A TS2 goes for just under 2 grand and will do a perfect job for your four footer

    Thanks All, Again....

    We are getting an RO unit end of the month, decided that it would be cheaper in the long run and less hawlin big containers around, (We were advised by the store that it would be safer to just buy the water from them... that said... they also tried very hard to convince us to use bio balls and didnt know alot about the dsb... said we should not believe the internet) I think its better to learn from others who have actually been there done that made the mistakes than guessing and using old tequniques all the way...

    Pic gona have to be uploaded tonight, still havent got my camera back from my bud...

    Stuff I got 2 Years Ago:

    JEBO - Quadplex Spraying Protein Skimmer (182 II)

    Think its all Astro Pumps:

    3X 500 l/h In DT
    1X 1900 l/h Return Pump
    1X 2000 l/h On The Skimmer

    SUMP is :

    500mm X 370mm X 350mm

    Devided as follows:

    | A | B | C |
    | | | |
    | | | |
