    Hey guys

I could use some advise before finally choosing lights.

    My setup: 900mm x 300mm x 300mm 20 gallons
Keeping : Softies, LPS. Maaaybe some low light requiring Sps, but like one or two.

I've pretty much settled on using 2 x Vertex Illumilux Mariano Bianco (or 1 Mariano Bianco and one Mariano Blu (don't wanna go too blue tho).

Does anyone know what kind of par you get at this depth using one of these? And then how much I would get using two?

    Thanks.

We tested the par of 2 Illumilux 60w units on a tank 550mm deep

    we got 71.

So at 300mm you might get away with 2 units for a LPS tank

Is that par reading at the sand bed, topmost section of the tank, or mid?

    Hi 3Echelon

Par reading on a single illumilux at 300mm is +-160

We use these units in all our SPS coral beds with great results.

You will have great result in your tank whatever you want to keep

Ah right, okay, for my setup I would imagine the par would be more along the lines that Submariner posted at 300mm. I think par drops off quicker the deeper you go ...? I also plan on getting two.

we did test with 2 units ;) also deepth influences par reedings as well as water clarity. The Illumilux are unlensed so you get a good spread, but penetration is lacking

The owner of the tank was infact using the 2 illumilux, her tank is still thriving as a softy dominated tank.

ye, ok cool, the setup will be a rimless setup with no cover as well. I think I should be good with two for LPS, even maybe some low light SPS. I realise the Vertex Illumilux is specific for setups, like while I think you could have a multiple ones for a deep system, they are probably better suited for shallow systems due to potential par drop off etc.

If you place them high in the tank, it should not be a problem.
