    Hi Guys,

I have just built myself a tank, its 50x50x50 and i used 25mm plumbing for both the return and overflow , but now i have a bigger problem, when i swicth on the return pump my tank overfills and spills over, it looks like the overflow isnt working and createsa siphon and drains the tank or it overflows.

whats the best way to fix this problem

Firstly 25mm is a little on the small side .... cant you put a ball valve on the return line and throttle it a little bit slower?

25mm is really small for a overflow. I'm assuming your return is the pipe on the left in the first picture and your overflow is the one on the right. How big is the hole in the durso. It sound like your hole may be blocked or something as a durso will never start a siphon

as you see above, if i plugg in the return pump the tank will overflow and spill, its looks like the overflow cant handle the flow coming into the tank.

    2. if i block the hole on the durso and plugg the return pump then i get a siphon and it drains the tank till the bottom of the overflow entry, this then causes the return to refill the tank and start the siphon again....the cycle continues.

Junz. your return pump is too strong for the size overflow. As suggested put a ball valve on the return and restrict the flow a bit. Builders sell 25mm ball valve
