    Hi all

Does anyone have a Hippocampus Camelopardalis (Giraffe seahorse) in their aquarium?

I have an enquiry from the BBC Natural History unit that are currently filming in Mozambique and they want to film one of these seahorses in close-up in an aquarium.

Please contact me urgently if you can assist.

    Thanks.

Sorry, we used to have at Bayworld, but not anymore. We had a Giraffe seahorse that was collected in the Transkei, as it was collected in the Transkei I would suggest try East London Aquarium and uShaka as it will be closer in distribution to them, especially uShaka.
I also tried to see if I could have imported them, but without success in the hope of breeding them at Bayworld and possibly at home.

If you are looking at filming of other species of seahorse then uShaka is probably your best bet.

Sorry, can't even say I have seen them on any available import list, will ask for you but I think there is very little to no change that anybody in S.Africa will have

The most likely chance of an import is probably Kenya, when I was looking they seemed to be the most likely. I was asking through Liaquat and it would probably have been a special request as other species of seahorse appear to be more regularly collected.

LOL Andre - Liaquat is the name of one of the ex-sponsors of MASA. He runs a marine import business in Cape Town. His company name is Aquality. Google Aquality, then you would have more info on a "Liaquat" ;)

My supplier in Kenya can supply but the Kenyan government does not issue CITES... so Kenya is not an option.

Interesting delemma - If Kenya does not supply Cites, should CITES not have another source acting on there behalf ?
It is so easy for any fish to be imported under the name of another especially when it comes to species identification that you would like to believe that they showed some concern towards avoiding illegal trade of this nature

Liaquat's name on MASA is Obi-wan, maybe another East African country could export them? They are found on the East African coastline. Actually quite a nice looking seahorse and were not problematic to feed. Even taking frozen mysids if I remember correctly.
