    Hello,

Was just wondering if anyone uses the Two Oceans aquarium in the V&A waterfront's salt water for water changes?

I have a membership, so it's free to collect. Was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with the water?

    Hi dude
I work there, and to answer ur question, the exibits have a constant flow of clean warm/cold seawater going in and overflowing to waste, would they be alive if the water wasnt good? i use the water and see no point in buying expensive salts

I would do all the necessary tests and if all is in order then go for it

Hi..I can't speak from personal experience as my tank is not set up yet,but have heard from few ppl that the water is apparently high in phosphates and a few guys said it caused red slime algae...I dunno how true this is as I have not tested the water my self. Let's see what the more experienced memebers have to say

I have collected water at the Two Oceans Aquarium for the last 2yrs now and i have found no problem with it at all...just yesterday i did a water change and personally i can vouch that when i do a water change i can see the difference in my fish and inverts and corals..i haven't done any tests myself..

    JohnDoe,

I've been using it on and off (I was overseas for 18 months) for the past 5ish years without a days problem.

So doing a water change with aquarium water will give you the same results as a water change with a good quality salt powder?

Is this what we are saying?

the water is pumped from the sea and put through about 30 large sand filters, ive never had any problems and you can phone beforehand to ask if the water is ok, the salinity does not vary, let me stress tht

is ther waters tested for presence of irons/metals?

I personally used ther water for a long time, and always had algae issues and corals never thrived
But with Salt mix, tank looked better and corals thrived!

I personally never seen a mixed reef tank thrive on the 2oceans water, unless it was supplemented with additives

    my 2cents

I still have about 4 kgs of Sera Marin salt mix. I usually purchase the RO water and mix the salt.

As I am a member of the aquarium, just wondered if it would do any harm if I'd rather get the water there when my salt was finished, or should I rather mix it myself.
