cool thread, but I don't see the point. You going get someone cocking it up and destroying parts of their skimmer that is just going cost $$

The pinwheel upgrade works great on most skimmers and will take out more *** than you going want to keep cleaning out ;)

Quick question. The pump on a skimmer pulls in air at a certain rate, right? If you push 30% to 40% more air down that pipe with an airpump or something, will it improve the skimmer somehow? Perhaps only if you do the pinwheel upgrade?

Hi JD - I did EXACTLY that mod to my WeiPro...... It ended skimming about the same as one of my ReefTek TS2's I had at the time.

This mod indeed works LIKE A DREAM! I still have not done it on my Bubble Magus - because I do not need to at this stage.....

Cool. What airpump did you connect up? I suppose you need an adjustable one?

I connected a pond air pump - the air output was something like 80 litres of air per minute....

Ziyaad you seem to know alot about skimmers. Sorry if i'm sidetracking.

I bought a new OTP-1000 pump for my old Reeftek TS1 in sump skimmer. The pump didnt come with an venturi. 2 questions.

    Should i come with one?

    and

Do these pumps work well with the TS1? My bubbles seem to be VERY high up and the skimmer seems to overflow. I have lifted the skimmer about 5 cm from the base of the sump so see if the bubbles drop.

I'm very lost. Dallas is going to also take a look for me tonight. Thought i would just check with you.

You get a OTP-1000 for the TS1 skimmer, a kalkstirrer and a carbon reactor. All 3 pumps are the same except for the impellers and attachments.
Check your pump impeller - it must either be a needle wheel or a pin wheel, not a normal impeller. And you need to have a venturi and a pipe to draw air inside the skimmer - not sure if that is a seperate buy, I think so.

Tobes just remember my TS1 is the older one. But thanks for the info! But shouldnt be different. I just ordered the Ventrui from the LFS should be able to pick it up over the weekend. Its the Pin Wheel Impeller. The thing skims like a monster now but seem to overfill into the cup for some reason. Even thou i lifted the skimmer 5cm higher using egg crate.

Drop the level of the water in your skimmer by lowering the riser tube you can then adjust it to the height that you want to either skim dry or wet. its currently too high up or the skimmer is still in too much water.

The riser tube was all the way to the bottom. I raised the skimmer even higher. Seems to have sorted it out. Thanks!

    Bump for this awesome mod.

My skimming is about 75 - 80% more efficient since i have changed over to this mod (although i did also change from the original pin wheel to a needle wheel with enkamat)

Changed from the left wheel to the right wheel
    (Enkemat is also seen)

and a blurry pic of the collection cup.
