    but what are you going to plant in it, isnt mangroves illegal or something or other ?

    Yes, all SA mangroves are protected these are black and come from the States and come through customs the nrmal way without any problem.They do wonders for tanks with high nutrient levels

    As far as I know if you want to keep protected species imported from another country you need a Department of Agriculture plant import permit, a Phytosanitary Certificate, a permit to sell it (trade in protected species), a certificate origin (to prove that it’s not wild collected from the local protected population). The list goes on and on.
    The penalty of contravening the Bio-Diversity act of 2004 is R100 000 and/or 10 years in prison per transgression. An interesting point to note is that catch and release of an invasive species (carp, bass, most tilapia) also contravenes the act and is subject to the same penalties. Madness indeed!
