When we speak of rare fish, damselfish are rarely the first thing that comes to mind because most aficionados would rather collect angelfish, butterflyfish and wrasses. But the trio of Chrysiptera traceyi damselfish that LiveAquaria posted up last night are about as rare as it gets in the family Pomacentridae.

Like the Johnson’s fairy wrasse, Tracey’s demoiselles come from the Marshall Islands and we have been enjoying a small group of C. traceyi for most of the year. We love the yellow and purple coloration which looks like an oddly colored and oddly shaped royal gramma but lookout for those electric lie markings to the scales, they really pop under LED light.

I always thought a super rare fish is super expensive. 79 USD for the Trio is cheap. The Canary damsel, Chrysiptera galba goes for 59 USD each. That should be then the most rare damsel.

Live aquaria's prices are all actually good.

Go to the bottom left of their site and you'll see "Collectors Corner" or something similar. Some nice rare specimens there which are all decently priced.

Blue Harbour aquarium shop in Japan is the place known to get very rare fish. I would love to visit that aquarium shop one day, its beautifull.
