Well guy's now the work begins have decided to strip and re-build my tank.
After much thought and investigation, i have decided to strip and dedicate my tank to a old enemy of mine, the story starts many years ago surfing in reunion, St lue to be exact, many of the surfers on this site will know this wave as on hell of a heavy left hand reef break that injures more water users than crime in the lovely island,
and for allthe reefers yes its a shallow coral encrusted reef break, mostly the ones that hurt when you fall on them.
Enough said and a long story short 6 day's into the trip took off on a monster and got whipped needlles to say on the reef, 16 stiches later and a hatred of coral reefs a few years down the line i have my very own in my house, but my old friend still itches now and then, with the introduction of phat into my life and his sps dominated tank a bug has bitten me, i want to show my kids what the hell scared my upper leg ( stopped just in time and place, a few more inches and i might as well been born a chick).

I am getting rid of basically everything soft in my tank, but have set up a nano for a few of my softies, will keep some easier stuff in here for propagating and helping out guy's who cant afford to buy stuff.
Nano dims 850mm long 300wide and 250mm deep, gone a bit off the norm with the sizes but thats what i like, and the depth is inportant for light penetration, the cycle period has begun on the nano.

On the other side everything is still going am waiting for my live rock to come from my local shop before i strip everything out. In the mean time i am buying my hardware,
just invested in another halide unit and 2 14000k blv's to work with the rest of my lighting, have built my new sump, and fuge already.
All my filtration will be located outside of the house in iether a wooden shed or a brick structure, very well ventilated as it sun facing.

I am aiming to turn my tank volume over atleast 40 times have already got 2 seio's m 1500 and am ordering 2 of the 10000 litre a hour pumps , cant remember the code on them, have got a AM 1000 skimmer with a or 2500 needle wheel feed to it. if this skimmer is insufficient i will have to add or upgrade but time will tell. The prefiltering to the fist compartment will be good so im sure it will work.

with regards to supplements i am opting to do manual suplementation, just feel it gives me more controll. Will also be investing in lamonte test kits.

My question to you guys is please give me any and all advice from your own experiances i have read countless articles and testimonials about keeping sps, but mostly from overseas reefers, been in SA its a diffrent ball game our options are limeted and product range is not the greatest, so guys any little bits of advice or questions please feel free to post here.
Once i am in a position to start taking photos i will post them in this tread and the progress of the new tank.

Thanks

Slowly filling up

The mechanics well at least half of it, still got to do the fuge

About a hour later and the tank is full

Running my old canister just full uf carbon and floss

Well gonna let that run for a week then do about a 75% water change and add
the sand for the dsb.
After that is live rock and run again for a week, before another 75% water change,
By then the fuge will be up and hopefully the chiller.

looking good dude!! nice drums!!

What is the point of filtering NSW for a week and then chucking it all out?

Viper its a 8 way outlet thought it might give me a bit more varied flow

Rory i do really big water changes often but 75% might be a bit much, on the other hand i have done it like that for years, and it has never done any harm.

Any chance I could get a close up pic of that 8 way outlet? Where did you get it from?

will do when i change water its very simple normally used for micro irrigation feeds,
Most farm corporations or hardware shops this one i gat ot mica , cost R7.20

Sounds interesting, thanks, is it running yet? Are you happy with it?

viper sorry its a 6 way way not 8 the 32mm is 8 way but i used the 25mm 6way, sorry
It works like a charm get lots of varied direction, i am currently trying to modify it so it spins but am really busy at the moment.

Sims the tank was built by myself, all out of 10mm dims are 1200 long by 800 wide by 550 deep.

My next tank is gonna be a built in tank got the design and everything sorted just need to build a house around it, figure tank always comes first.

well the tank is looking good still got a bit of a haze to it as i added some media into the dsb, media is called supa aqua looks cool and is made from sea weed.
put two little fish in aswel a six line and a regal tang both are happy and eating already.
Must say the wait to stock is killing me but worth it my water params are looking good.
will take some photo's soon just want the tank to clear properly.
