    HI all

Can I please have an honest answer....

If packed properly , how long can marine fish or corals last in transport?? I undertstand mortality will obviously increase the longer the trip is... but what is a safe time period?

Hi Mickey - my Copperband Butterfly survived 8 hours in a bag, in a box. The bag and box WAS REALLY decently packed, though.
The LFS also put pure O2 oxygen in the bag as well..... And there was polystyreen in the box....

So - I would say - 8 hours DEFINITELY.... perhaps longer....

If you cant get pure O2 you can add a drop of peroxide to the bag every two hours which will help with oxygen

We have collected on numerous occasions in KZN and drove with the fish for 7-8 hours and all of em made it safely... Oxygen tabs are great...

Local pet shop but a battery operated air pump is better plus doubles up as a back-up air supply for your tank in the event of the dreaded ESKOM POWER CUTS!

Peroxide breaks down into oxygen and water which is a liquid oxygen tab. You can also use peroxide during a power outage to oxygernate the water by using a 40 percent solution at 5ml per 200 litres every four hours mixing it in with your hands. A drop in a fish bag will do the same. It costs about R8 bucks for 100ml

I use battery operated air pumps and polystyreen in the box last up to 10 hours.
