Having a chat with the guys at Idol Marine just a few minutes ago,
and as usual unearthed a gem of a topic.

It is believed that certain types are Caulerpa are toxic,
and that trimming said Caulerpa (DSB of Fuge) would get
you some possibly dangerous fingertips covered in bad juices.

I'll do some more digging around ...

Have you guys heard of any such thing?

Caulerpa can leach numerous noxious and toxic exudations above most other algaes. It can be toxic to fishes and invertebrates forced to eat it regularly over time.
The exudations can hamper the growth of stony and soft corals and it can become invasive.
It is best kept controlled in a refugium and not in the reef display as it can overgrow, burn and kill corals.
To prevent caulerpa from going sexual and release accumulated compounds that can harm or kill livestock, they need to be in light constantly and pruned regularly. Good husbandry is needed with caulerpa.

Chaetomorpha is a much more forgiving macro algae to be used as nutrient export.

    Hope this helps :wave2:
