toppdoggs D.I.Y skimmer

    hey guys i thought i would give the D.I.Y skimmer ago. I got a 140 diameter clear pvc tube and all the goodies to go with it i just finished it and this is the result pics are not of the best taken with mobilephone. i have not fired it up yet but once i do will upload more pic be kind as it is my firt attempt .

    all the goodies

    first welded tube on base

    pvc hotweld

    cut rings for lid and collection cup

    moulded pvc
    [​IMG]
    put together loosly to see what it will look like

    drilled holes and welded all the fittings in
    [​IMG]
    final product without lid
    [​IMG]
    final product with lid well thas what its looks like hope it works aswell as it looks
    like i said will post more pics once it is working

    Why dont you go for a pump with a needle wheel or pin wheel impeller, it will surely give you finer bubbles.
    A good brand will be the Reef Octopus pumps. Perhaps an OTP 3000.:thumbup:

    Hey top dog i was in ultimate aquatics the other day and noticed allot of needle and pin wheel impellers there, maybe try and get one that will fit your pump it will make the world of difference to the skimmer.

    nice build mate:thumbup: you should have put 45 degree bends on that skimmer inlet, would have been better, as well as possibly made it an external skimmer? would be much more effective :p but very well done

    scuba there are 45degree bends but i had cut then shorter to fit in the main chamber.shot for the complements

    Neat DIY topdogg!!! What's the price on the clear pvc? Im plannin on makin a DIY skimmer but cant find any clear pvc here in Pta. Any1 know of any places
