Hi,
I am planning to build a 36x24x16" tank and plan to keep gravel less than an inch think maybe even half .. to filtration needs to be a lot more than needed. Was wondering what are the negatives of a top filter as this type is cheap and readily available in my country as compared to good canister filers. HOB filter is not on my list. The only con I can think of is the tall lid that needs to be made so as to hide the big filter tray that will be on top of the tank. Posting this as reviews for top filters are not common in international forums. Anything else that I need to worry about? I plan to keep cichlids so filtration is even more important. Canister filter maintenance and cost is a deterrent for me.
