I thought id challenge myself and see if i could get a decent shot of fish top down, flash off. It was indeed challenging, especially as i was using a macro lense and the depth of field is hard to get right, but if you do the pics look great. I havent downloaded them all but here are a few....

these two pics made me think a little.....the first one is of the dominant male anthia is the tank. he splayed all fins in a show of size and aggression and then hit the surface hard, as if he was taking on his reflection. that made me wonder how many fish jump doing the same thing? Normally there is extensive surface aggetation due to internal flow, but i switched off all pumps for the photo shoot, so perhaps thats another good reason to have a pump aimed at the surface.....perhaps ???

thanks jaak, its tough photography, and unusual. Its not often you can get directly above a tank and close enough to fish to take these shots, i'll have another go tomorrow:)

another intresting aspect of these is the reflection shots with fish close to glass, doubling ones shoal in the click of a shutter :)

yes, eventually. I have two shoals of anthias i am waiting on (as in different species) but the tank is a very long way off. But i have a number of fish being looked after either in specific tanks with me, or with a reef buddy. the nasso tang i brought in is a beaut too, but i havent seen the other fish as it was a real mess with the shipment and I had to take drastic measures and send more fish away than i wanted to. But for now i am only certain of 5 out of 7 that are feeding and thats a worry...
