    Hi
The temperature in my tank has dropped to 22.5 degrees this morning. I have two 300w Jager heaters which seems too struggle getting things warmed up. I have another 300w I could pop in. (Apparently its gonna be -4 tonight)
    Is this advisable?
When do I risk drawing too much power? (I run the heaters trough a Reef Angel)
    Thanks
    Fanie

Could you not run one from normal power connection (eg wall plug)? That way, your RA will still monitor the temp, and can use the heaters controlled by it, to regulate temp? Eg let the reef angel switch them off if tank is warm enough

Hi @fanienel What size Tank do you have? Total system volume? I Run two 300W on my 1.8m! 950litres System! I Run 1 Heater per Relay on the RA! You can run two per Relay but you are then Risking damaging the Relay!

    Hi

Gessigie: Ah good idea I'll give it a bash -thanks!

Christo: My tank and sump is only ~ 480l ... not sure why it runs cold but the room its in is cold. I have run two heaters from one relay for quite a while ... guess I was just lucky ... will fix asap Thanks for the advice!

I run six off three RA plugpoints no problem, when I read the first time it seemed that even 3 x 300 per point would be fine.
noted that even if there is power on the heaters and set at 29 degrees they are not all on 100% of the time. This may be your problem. From a safety aspect two 150w is safer than one 300w in case of failure or 2 x 300w on RA

The RA power box has a 10A fuse, you a 300w heater is 2A so yes you can run two off of it safely.

Also maybe set the heaters at full temp ont he control knob on the heater so they don't switch off..
and yes, let the reef angel control the temp..

    Hi @butcherman

We know its safe to run 2 300W heaters of one Replay! And I'm Sure you are familiar with The RA Forum! Theres a few guys on there that said they ran into some trouble when running 2 300W on 1 Relay! Thus Burning the Relay!! Rather Safe then sorry!

Hi Fanie, I also had the same drop with one 300w Jager and decided to clad the sump with 20mm polestyrene and put a blanket over the tank, this morning although it was colder last night my temp was spot on.

    yes @Christo

never said to run one heater off one relay, my entire statement was to run the heaters off one box. One should never be running more that one device on a single relay. :tt2:

But then again, how many devices can one safely plug into a wall socket in a room?

I did state the box and not a relay.;)

    Hope this clarifys.
