Hi all. Needd some help with asick Toadstool leather. This Coral was fine up until a few days ago when it started showing signs of distress. I found that it an area on the trunk had started to crumble/rot away. this has now caused the coral to lean over to one side and and it is hardly polloping.

Is there any remmedy for this problem? if not what is the best method to frag it?

What are you using to secure it...? Sometimes an elastic band can cause that....can you get a picture...? Is "rotting" just that or do you have some "gunk" on it...brown jelly like substance...?

I had a look at it not looking that bad. Happened with one of mine also. Rinse it put it lower in tank where not to strong flow. Put it in position, stabile between 2 rocks. Maybe someone ells have a answer.

If it is an infection of some sort, take it out the water and cut the stem off above the infected area with a sharp stanley blade or scalpel. Rinse it with some tank water and put the loose stem with head between rocks somewhere, it will attach and grow again. Get rid of the left over piece on the rock before putting the rock back in the water.
You can also push a thin wooden stick like a sosatie stick through the bottom of the stem and use elastic bands on each side to attach it against a rock by putting the bands over the rock and stick. The foot will then be against the rock and attach in time.

If the tissue continues to degenerate after the FW dip, it will usually be due to poor water conditions in the tank, poor lighting, heavy sedimentation, the use of some aluminum-based phosphate removers, or the presence of an allopathic toxin. Water changes, carbon, correction of lighting issues and changing currents will often fix this. If necrotic areas begin to show on the epidermis of the specimen, excision with a sharp scalpel or good surgical scissors, followed by an extended bath (10 minutes) in an Iodine bath (10 drops of Lugol's iodine in 1 liter of seawater) will almost always restore the coral to good health once the underlying causes are corrected.

I hope this gets you going with this hardy coral, lemmeno if you need more.

    Hi Dorry

Have checked all water parameters and all is good.
Unfortunately the rot continued to spread, so last night i took a stanley blade the stalk and cut the infected bottom 2 thirds off :(. Have now placed on a new rock to re-attach. This morning early when i checked it with atourch before leaving for work it was already starting to pollyp. Holding thumbs it survives.
