A question for the smart reef chemist. How much Kalk powder is the equivalent of one measure of Tropic Marin Bio Calcium? A TM measure is 5ml so I assume 5g and adds 28ppm Ca to 5US gal / 18l.

Bear in mind the TM also adds alkalinity, magnesium and all other TE's. So getting an accurate conversion is very difficuilt as one has varying purities of kalk powder. Why do you want to change?

Was thinking of dripping kalk. I add 3 spoons of TM a day. Thinking of the future when I go bigger dont really want to be adding 10+ spoons a day.

Consider kalk a calcium maintainer(in low demand systems) and a calcium additive/booster a product to increase levels when not being maintained enough.

I have a high calcium demand and I only dose 5 scoops per day. Also bear in mind that you would have to dose all the other supplements without the TM

Was thinking about that all day. Also the mixing factor. Guess I stay with the tried and trusted.

Martin, I have been dosing kalk (slurry method) to maintain my Ca and Alk. For Mg I use epsom salts. All of my corals are doing well and coralline is insane. I would suggest, check your demands and dose. It is cheap and it works. Also remember kalk helps in the reduction of phosphates (obviously in conjunction with a skimmer and regular water changes).
