    Hi All

I recentlty set up my TL550, and I have noticed that water, and foam in the skimmer is coming out through the holes on the top of the skimmer cup.
The skimmer cup is also full off water.
My old tank didn't have a skimmer so im no sure if this is right.

Happened to me a few times after leaving the skimmer off for 24hr after a water change to allow the Bio Clean to settle in. Takes a day to start running normal again, I just control the airflow and empty the cup as many times as it needs.. could even be like every 2 hrs.

you could close the valve a little more so there is a little less air coming in. That would also stop it from bubbling over. Maybe take it out of the water a little more. You can move the cup up and down

Thanks guys gonna try closing the valve a little, if that doesn't work I will try and lift it up a bit. My cup is very stiff I struggled to get it out.
So there shouldn't be any water in the cup only foam?

Nah you should get nasty brown or green water thats all the gunk you dont want in the tank....how dark it is is dependant on how wet or dry you are skimming and of course your bio load.

Its still white, but only been running for two days. No bioload yet.
When you say how wet or dry you are skimming what do you mean?

If you skim wet you often get a lighter coloured skim that has the consistancy of water, with the skimmer cup filling fairly quick.

When you skim dry you get very dark smelly skim that is often quite thick. The skimmer cup can take much longer to fill when skimming dry.....

It depends on the height of the skimmer cup wet allowing more water to go into the cup, dry having less water going into the cup.

They both do the same thing at the end of the day, it comes down to preferance and how often you want to empty the cup.

You will only really see the difference when you have a bio load in the tank.
