They're fairly common on the Natal and northen EC coastlines.

We used to catch them them in bucketloads in Western Madagascar. A total nuisance and only suitable for bait...... Whilts diving, was fun to watch them be a nuisance on the reefs too. Would not recommend this for anything but the largest and most bulletproof aquariums.

Anything that takes bait and is edible. The locals believed triggers to be poisonous if eaten, so no market for them. Was not gonna try and prove them wrong as I was not sure on their edibility. Mostly picked em up whilst fishing for snapper and rockcod on the reefs when the couta, kingies or sailies were not around.
Caught many beautiful tank specimens that went to the pot or out as livebait. Was always quite ironic knowing some of the fish we ate would fetch a good price alive, but it sure beat eating turtle soup, which btw does taste awefull. Turtle eggs were quite tasty though, weird texture but tasty.
