Bought the one on the left brand new yesterday from one of our sponsors. The one on the right was in my old tank.

Both probs in the same glass of water.

I had the same...I got two in my Tank....the old and the new and both give me a different reading......I now add both and divide by two...
PS: to be on the safe side...I tend to do the reading of the highest...especially when it's hot...I'll rather think it's 27 and try and bring the Temp down, than go for the one that reads it's 25 and stress my LS as it might actually be close to the other reading...

    These are around R50.
There are also those around R180, but I have ABSOLUTELY no guarantee that the expensive one won't do the same.

both different probes, both diff circuitry, both different calibrations, you would need to compare to like :)

i hate this too, i have 3 temp sensors and none are exact, but only .2 out

Use a traditional mercury thermometer and then you can see by how far each are off, in my experience a mercury thermometer is rather accurate.
    Just my 2c :)

lol, common problem, I went to a petshop once that had about 7 or 8 of these cheap chinese digital readers on their shelf, they ALL showed different readings.

I have the same 2 as you, both of them seem to differ with 3 degrees!
Also make sure you get new batteries installed in both and then check again!
My black one gave a scary reading, changed the battery and volla!

Get a thermometer from a chemist if you're uncertain. Humans are mucho concerned about their own asses! They'll probably be spot on..... Lawsuits are expensive.

I got 2 of those on the right, and both give different readings, more out when above 25. Below 22 they read the same.

I bought a digital thermometer from a chemist and it didnt work on my tank. They are only designed to work in a specific temperature range from about 31 degrees to about 39 degrees celcius which is way too high for our tanks.

Just been at the chemist and it seems that all thermometers work in the 30-40C range, including the mercury ones.

So where does one get an accurate and reasonably priced thermometer?
