A child locked up in a cage like that? In daylight? Where everybody can see? And nobody does anthing about it? He could not move? Nobody wants to help him? Birds and Pets for Africa store in Kempton Park?

Come on people - this just cannot be true!!

You see, this is when you need to do your own investigation.

With the internet it is easy to get a contact number. I phoned the petshop and the guy explained to me that the boy was playing in the cages while the mother was selling koeksisters close by. Boys will be boys. I played everywhere when I was a child.

Moral of the story: Don't believe everything you read in the newspapers.

I still think that this is EXTREMELY unresponsible of ALL the ADULTS involved to allow this to happen.

Yes, the adults are here to blame.
The petshop should not allow children to play in cages as these cages are not very clean I suppose.
The mother should not allow her child to play where she cannot see them. Child abduction. Etc, etc.
But I must ad, if this story was true, I would have made a lot of noise.

waaahaaaa ha ha. You right, the kid probably didn't like doughnuts. Parents cant be doing such a bad job, at leat the child doesn't talk to strangers, or accept sweets.

Before one can really comment, we would have to know how the cage was locked. Could the boy have locked himself inside. I know the article said the lock was not clipped, but was it still locked in such a way that the boy could not escape.

In the end who's story do you believe.

Story definitely seems strange. Car without valid number plates. Defensive shop owner. Boy then gets locked in a car.

I have been to this store a number of times in June, over weekends and have never seen any kid locked in a cage.
The suspended cage is at the entrance as you enter the packing area, like the one in the picture.

The kid could have been playing but locked, I don't think so and I have never seen any locks on any cage.

Unfortunately, this still does not offer any real account of why a child was allowed to be inside a potentially dangerous "cage" or container, by ANY of the adults involved?

And it just highlights the inadequacy of our local governmental organizations in handling ANY possibly dangerous situation.

Other than someone who was able to take a picture of a child in a cage, there is no concrete evidence that the child was NOT indeed locked up, nor that the child was "just playing inside the cage".

Take this on face value - anyone who has ANY humanity left in them would be greatly concerned in seeing this photograph!

Guys, if you were at my house over any weekend in summer you'll find both my boys playing inside a rabbit hutch and they occasionally ask me to just put the latch on. They can however just lift the lid and climb out but as a parent to 2 little boys believe me they climb into the weirdest places out of curiosity...
Should I then be in the paper too??
