For some sea water is an irritate source of Mother Nature. They say it makes their skin sticky and dry. Personally I think it is a great hobby.
I hereby want to share my personal journey with you.

    · December 2009
A man by the name Phillip donated me my first marine aquarium the day he moved out of his house and into an apartment. It is 88cm x 36cm x 51cm high with a sump of 72cm x 27cm x 31cm high. It is plus minus a 200l system. On the day of the move; we flushed 80% of the water volume and loaded the system on a bakkie to be transported few blocks away to my home. Inside the 20% water column was a pair orange ocellaris clownfish, a toby, 2 flag tails, squirrel fish and some hermits. I knew NOTHING about marines. Nonetheless I filled the tank and all went well.

    · June 2011
A power outage, miss-informed parents and my absence caused the loss of my toby and one clownfish.

    · April 2012
I lost complete interest. I was battling brown algae and the water was yellow. I placed and advertisement on Gumtree.

    · May 2012
Complete change in mind frame. I removed the advertisement from Gumtree. I realised one pane was about to burst. I emptied the tank to refurbish and sell again at a later stage.

    · January 2013
Tank was complete again. Tank was fully refurbished. Stand was galvanised, old wood covering removed, roof was varnished and new bracing all round.

    · February 2013
I changed the old wet and dry sump to a DSB and refugium design.

    · May 2013
    I wet the tank.

    · July 2013
Galvanised stand was furnished with luxurious sleeper wood covering.

    · Current
I am stocking tank with live rock. It is stocked with mated pair black Percula clownfish (mis bar), turbo snail, hermit crab, Zoanthus spp. and frogspawn coral.

I hope you enjoy my thread.
    Images to follow soon.

The 2012 images were used for the gumtree ad.

    I wanted R3000-00 for this tank and a 1.2m, 10mm glass.

Yes, the water in the image is green because i had left the tap water in the tank for a couple of days after testing for any leaks:biggrin:

Seeing that it is freshwater phytoplankton i would be forced to feed it to the koi pond:p. Ill leave the koi stuff to my father though.. :)!
@Handy got some true saltwater phyto and roti's from me the other day :tt2:. Good stuff for the corals.
