    hi all,
Ellaine souns like she is really battling while her husband is out the country. the tank sees to be going backwards fast and she describes the water as being green. NO not algae growing on the glass, the actual water is green.

she is in pe. anybody know whats going on.

im afraid i have little info, hopefully elaine will respond on pm or on the thread, but time is ticking i fear :(

off hand sounds like algae is growing in the water column, normally happens in fresh water, i would suggest 10% water changes to anyone in PE can help, or lend an uv sterlizer.

    Hi Elaine - Johan - Crispin -

Elaine - please reduce the tank's lighting to a maximum of 4 hours. Also - reduce your feeding of the fish in the tank, to once every 2 days....

You do not need to feed the fish that often.

This will already help A LOT.....

Good luck with this, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't stress so much. No use you stressing...... the stress alone WILL NOT make a difference....

    Good luck with this....

BTW: Have Johan showed you how to do a water change? If so - please do one asap...

BUT, green water in itself is NOT an urgent issue to worry about.

Hi Elaine, sorry i only saw this now. No worries with the green water it is chlorella, (sp) algae the only harm it can do is deplete the oxygen levels in you water.

I wish i was near you to get some it is great food for planktonic organisms.

Chlorella is a lower order algae, and should die off when your higher order algae takes hold in the system.

The only reason i can think you got this as its not such a common occurance is that you had some live rock with a bit of fertilizer on it ( fertilizer been dead or rotting algae ) otherwise you just picked up a few spores and it like your parameters and took hold.

Water changes will only feed the chlorella, best bet is to run a uv for a few days or seed the tank with a rock that has good strong algae growth on it. I would suggest you try the uv route first.

    Good Luck.
