    Hi Guys,

My husband and U have just had a 1000L rimless tank installed. It looks amazing (and it only has the live rock in). Know the wait starts I believe (6-8 weeks). I have been looking through the internet to try and find places to start looking for healthy fish and corals (which I believe can only be added in stages and again over time). So if any one has any recommendations they would be appreciated. While we wait this out its time to do some homework it seems to be getting more and more complicated. Looking forward to the challenge.:)

hello ann and welcome to masa, great yo have you join us:)

the cycle (that 6-8 weeks, longer if youre me:)) can actually be a great fun time for you to get with the tank and there is sooooo much to do and learn before you start adding fish and clean up crew that the time flies by:) If you have 1000l tank youv probably gotten a fair amount of LR in there and now is a great time to get your aquascape just right. Move the rocks around so that they are facing up like they are supposed to (you will see a whiter underside and often slight signs on life on the upside of the LR) and you can also start planning what you want to introduce and in what order.

who installed the tank for you? There are some awesum live stock holders in jhb (and some not so good ones) so go for a sunday drive and go look at the fish that are available, get the names of the guys you like and then learn about each fish. Plan plan plan and soon you will know just what you want to do and how to do it:)

id love to see that tank (even with just sand and LR there is lots of help we can give you) so if you have a few pics share them with us:)

    Hi AnnDom,

    Welcome to Masa.

How about starting a tank thread. Its awesome if you have a place where you and everyone here can discuss your tank. Then compare FTS in a year to see how far you have come

Good luck with the wait. Time for lots of research anf planning.

Hi there and welcome to MASA. Do yourself a favour and read the link below on starting a marine tank - it has awesome info on tank cycle, filtration, lights, etc. It's not too long, but a nice read - enjoy ;)

    Quarantine Help

    Hi Guys,

Can anyone please help with some advise I am having a hard time processing. All fish purchased should go into a quarantine period and this varies from type of fish. We do not have a quarantine tank and have been advised that the sump can be used as the quarantine holding tank. The confusion comes in that if the fish has a disease and its sitting in the sump surely all the water from the sump is being circulated through the tank which doesn't make sense unless infected fish can only pass on the disease by being in close contact. If you are going to quarantine fish it needs to be in a separate system and you should have separate equipment eg nets, thermometers etc. You could use a large plastic tub to quarantine

    no.
Who ever told you that is smoking some good stuff.
As you said, the water circulation will spread it.

Separate system. Far removed as possible. With own equipment, even with own net is the best option.
