Guys, if you can see the moon tonight, quickly go out and check it out.
    AMAZINGLY AWESOME!!!!!!

Huge ring around the moon- not right next to it- a bit further off the moon- the darker your surroundings the more beautiful

Chika, do you see the big ring around it, as well as all the "lines/shades" pointing to the south pole???

I did ... I'm trying with my N95 and a telescopic lens but can't get decent pics to capture the rings ... don't know about pointing to south pole ... Its pointing to my neighbours who are confused seeing me outside with flashes now and then ... they must think I'm looney ..... which reminds me ... since school days wanted to buy a telescope and microscope .... nothing fancy ... just something to see little green men on the moon or little green goggas running around in my DSB .... time to start saving

Not in Pretoria... :( Went out in the cold, and its just normal

Its to do with moisture in the higher air. So obvious Natal got some moisture, and we don't.

Arggggg we cannot even see stars in JHB what about seeing the moon like that. We lucky if we see 20 stars at best anytime, we use the telescope to see the moon LOL. Was down in Piet Retief the weekend and just going even over there you can see 1000times more stars than in our smoke invested air. And even worse we have coalstove fires all etc. around us. So better viewing from right here, at the sk stargate, nice pic seank.

For those interested in knowing what is happening:

The ring is caused by the refraction of moonlight from Ice Crystals in the upper atmosphere
