    Hi Guys

i have posted recently about losing some chromis, and i also lost 2 shrimp a few months ago.

I am now considering the possibility of a mantis shrimp. I have a small tank RSM130, any ideas on how best to find it?

after googling and speaking to Lawrence from Aquaria, i was told of a clicking noise to listen for...but for the life of me, i dont know what im listening for to be honest. Anyone come across any good sound clips of what im supposed to hear ?

I have one in my tank too. I have white argonite sand in my DT and noticed that my live rock seems to be getting chipped of due to small pieces lying on top in the mornings. Best to describe the sound: a bic click pen. Usually I hear it going off right after the lights go off, three times in succession. Still need to see the bugger in its hidey-hole. :cursing:

you cant miss the sound, its a sharp loud click

but if no click it could be a host of other predators, eg gorilla crab

if u live in joburg go to the pet shop in broadacres ask for a crab trap its R50 and it traps the stuff i bought 1 when i heard clicking noises in my tank and i thought it was due to to much water pressure then i saw a mantis shrimp so i put it in my tank with a raw prawn inside and i caught him he almost got mo on my finger too.I also caught a few other hitchhickers some inidentified crabs and a wierd shrimp thing not a mantis

Clicking sound could be a pistol shrimp

    Mantis? Yep, pretty much.

Loud clicks are far more likely to be pistol shrimp though. Much more common and generally harmless.
