LiveAquaria has been teasing with promise of offering one of the rarest reef basslets ever documented in the aquarium hobby, the flathead perch, Rainfordia opercularis. Our first encounter with the flathead perch began with a specimen that was acquired by Matt Wandell of the Steinhart Aquarium. In just the last few months we’ve seen specimens of flathead perch being offered for sale from Japanese marine aquarium stores who sold their specimens for upwards of eight thousand dollars.

LiveAquaria is representing the U.S. rare fish scene by finally offering up this species to American rare fish collectors, in tonight’s Divers’ Den, for $4,999. IN addition to its very unusual body shape and bold color patterns, the flathead perch has a very unique method of stalking its prey and whoever ends up with this trophy fish will surely be rewarded with a very unique reef fish species.

R35 000.00, that's insane. I wonder how much the collector got paid, $50?
