I have been running a Grotech HEA250 for the past 18 or so months. It has been doing well, but as I have a VERY overstocked reef and 5 triggers that are only going to get bigger by the day, I figured that a skimmer upgrade was required. I was originally looking for a Deltec 1004, but luckily a local bloke did not know what he was selling, and I managed to get a bargain and I now have a Bubble King 300 external to install at a fraction of the cost:thumbup:.

I am waiting for delivery of my new feed pump, so for now am still running the Grotech, but thought that some of you may be interested in some bubble porn.

This is the current Grotech HEA250 running a single Ehiem 1260 (Coke can for scale):

awesome skimmer. whats it rated for?
Posted via Mobile Device

Rated at tanks between 1200 and 3000 litres, sucking a whacking great 2000lph of air using a single red dragon pump with a water throughput of 600 to 2000lph.

Bonus part is, the single pump only means a max power consumption of only 58W:)

WOW! That's AWESOME Neil! I believe that Red Dragon pumps are known to be the "baseline" when it comes to REALLY GOOD PUMPS for skimmers, and CLS's....

Do you know the AquaBee range of pumps at all?

Nice skimmer, post a pic when its up, with a FTS (please;)).

Yes, the red dragon is a brilliant pump. I run one on my return. It is a 6500 lph model and is silent. I also have a 8200 lph on order to be here this week (hopefully).
I do know the aquabee range. I have one on my Ca reactor and DIY nitrate filter. They are good pumps, but they do not make a large enough version for much else.

Beautiful system, brilliant skimmer.......absolutely jealous. Pity with the exchange rates those skimmers are out of the price range of most SA reefers. We do want pics of that thing in operation.

Wow, that is a really awesome tank :notworthy:

What lighting are you running ?

Do you have a thread of this tank on any other forums ?

Thanks, lighting is as follows:
3 x 250W 14k Halides suplimented with 2 x 80W actinics (front fuji purple from KZ and rear is an aqua-science blue).
Sump runs a 150W halide supplimented with 2 x 20W actinics.

As for a tank thread, no I dont run one, but do sometimes post on this and one other forum. Is there something you would like to know? There is an old writeup on the system in my signature:)

I have loads of questions, but the question I really would love an answer too, Is how are you able to keep so many diverse types and species of corals, very successfully together?

Not often you see a tank that has almost every type of commercially available coral, run so successfully.

I think the answer is lots of time spent. We are 'lucky' :( here in the UK in that th weather is not the best, so we get to spend a lot of time at home:whistling:.
I also run some large phos and carb reactors to help with the amount of food I need to feed the large no of fish. I also have some good mates that are happy to give constructive advice:whistling:.

Some pics of the reactors with the traditional coke can and a 50 cal bullet for those that recognise the size;)

WOW, those are BIG.

How often do you change the medium.

So really it's about keeping DOC to a minimum and basically what fish poo the corals don't eat get absorbed out the system.

Pretty much yes, I rely on mechanical filtration (50 micron), skimmer and settlement tanks to take out the solids and then PH4 remover for the chemical bits. I am also experimenting with sand replacement to prevent 'old tank syndrome'. My system is coming on for 2 years old next month and it is time to start worring about ots.
I also do 220 litre water changes approx every 4 weeks.
I find the filter replacement (Wed and Sun every week) is a bit of a pain, as is the washing of said filters, but i think it pays dividends in the long run.
The reactors are largs, but do not hold that much media in each. Only about a litre of each, but what they do allow is high volumes of water thoughput... Not sure if this theary is corrct, but time will tell:wave2:
