    Hi guys

has anybody ever used tetratec external canister with their set-up, is it worth the while or am I wasting my time? I have a Juwel tank which still has the original filter in it, I want to remove it and add this canister filter. could I put carbon in there and also some sort of phos remover?

    Thanks.

i'm no expert but it could be possible, i have:
    1 x 1300l/h
    1 x 1600l/h
    1 x 700l/h

canisters running a 2m x 0.6w x 0.5w setup.. each canister running carb and phos.

Shot thanks man, Does it come with filter media or do you have to get that separately? Do you have the card and phos in bags? im getting the ex600 for my 120L tank, I think that should be good enough?

o and aragonite chips, let me just add that cannisters on a marine setup is frowned upon in this hobby especially if you do not have a sump..

:p I heard that before thats why I started this, and I dont have a sump :( but my tank is doing really good, with just the juwel filter and a HOB skimmer, so it'll be like upgrading the juwel filter with a cannister :whistling::lol:

Hey dude....In my experience the only reason i outgrew my juwel tank was because of the support i got from my external cannister....Keep it simple .....phos remover with regular changes and try out ammonia removing stones now avail ....should work well ....my tetratec used be great for polishing the water and taking out the particles the normal internal just cant remove......also a sump isnt everything although other would disagree ...every tank has its limits u just need to pace yourself and livestock

I dont think putting in one would ever harm a system.....also if u buy the right size now (bigger than u need) u can always use it like i do for your next system :)

cool...np ...take a look at the EX700 or EX900 i think its the 700 rated for 250l tank ...if u get a bigger one u can always turn down the flow to match the tank

Added filtration is always nice. But you cannot remove your current in tank filtration yet. The cannister needs to be active and able to handle your tank bioload BEFORE you remove the existing filtration.
Also, a sump is better. But if you do not have a sump, having something is better than nothing.

Cool, Yeah im getting the EX700 the only reason why im getting it, is because im getting it for R750 in the box brand new... Dont think im going to upgrade anytime soon :whistling:

Hi Riaan Yeah im going to let it run with the internal one for a few weeks before I remove it, It has soo much of life on it and in it as well :( really need to set-up a sump some time so all the lil buggers and live in there.

Thanks - it was my sugestion - two filters will be more stable when having to do maintenence on either one of them.

    P.S
The new juwel protien skimmers are available rom next week - I have a Lido at home im starting marine in once the skimmer comes.

Heres a latest picture he sent me.

Ya i had a look at it - very cool , it will however fit instide the tank oposite to the filter , rom the outside it looks like the filter...
The are expensive though - Guessing it at about R1395.95

The tank and the T.V are in compotition for Whos biggest.
