My tank has been running for a week now.
How often do I test Ammonia levels, and when do I start testing fir Nitrite.. only when Ammonia is 0?

I test for both on a weekly basis during the cycle process. Keep the nitrogen cycle in mind.

Waste - ammonia - nitrite - nitrate - nitrogen (harmless).
