    Hi

I can get 3 pieces of 12mm glass, 150cm x 880cm for a very good price, but I need some advice first.

The glass might have been hardened, but maybe not...the owner is not exactly sure. If it is hardened I cannot cut it, so I cannot take it. (I need 150cm x 65cm) How do I know if it is hardened?

The glass was used to test a BIG aquarium/marine pond. It was filled up, left for a day or two and then emptied. The total volume is something like 70 000 liters. The 3 pieces of glass were the 3 windows and were put in an aluminium frame for the test. Could that amount of pressure have weakened the glass?

    Thanx les, easy enough!

Can anyone help with the 2nd question? Could the glass have been weakened due to the high pressure that was put on it for a day or two?

i doubt it.. glass is pretty much to the point.. it either lets you know its too much by cracking or doesnt at all.. if the glass were old i would be worried..

the only other thing that i can think of off hand right now is hairline fractires which are not really seen untill pressure is applied..

then it simply cracks if the lod is too much..

Thanx again Les. Do you think it is safe to take this glass or not. Its R 1000 for the 3 pieces, so it is really worth it, but if I buy it and it cracks, then my build is on hold for 2 months again!

    HI Dewald.

Yes, it was a 70 000 liter outdoor aquarium/pond. Looks like a swimming pool, with the 3 windows. The 12mm wasn't the permanent windows, it was only to test the dam... 32mm would have been installed, but he abandoned the project.
