Hi Guys,

Quick Question -
How hot or cold should my reef tank be?
I have heard guys talk about 24 to 25 degrees and others up to 28 to 30...
Please assist?

25 is generally a good number. But few degrees hotter or colder wont make a big difference.

Thanks Dexter.

I have seen my tank run from 25.5ish to 27.5 max although the 27.5 was when it was 34/35 outside.
Will this be ok?

Yes my tank at times goes to 28.5. As long as temp goes up slowly and down slowly all should be ok. Im just not 100percent sure what influence it has on sps. I only have softies and lps

Nope....as long as they natutal. Remember in the ocean the temp also changes constantly

28 and above is pushing the boundaries a bit too much. A hot day and you can exceed 30 easily.
Keep in mind that some of our corals do come from more cooler waters, plus waters that are more stable, or deeper. Winter and summer temperatures can differ, but we should try to maintain it as stable as possible per day. 1 or 2 degrees are fine, but swings in excess of 5 is not good.

Mine is as 24.5. Saves a bit of electricity.
