Guys i have been contemplating a move over to LED from T5

Can you post pictures/links of tanks that have run under LED from the get go?

I think it would be intersting to see what these systems look like..

for those of you currently running LED do you see a significant difference in your corals growth and colour or is it merley and electrical saving excercise?

Also what temps ate you running at in comparision to your previous lighting unit? and is a chiller still a necessity..

Im under imence pressure to recuce my electrical running costs.. so is LED going to do this for me? (i know its got longer lifespan than hailide T5 bulbs and is a 10 year investment that unfortunatley commands a huge once off lumpsump payment to get going)..

    Thanks

Les it's only expensive if you buy a light unit if you DIY I don't think you need to break the bank

@Sammy is doing research with pics of growth under LEDs

i also just made the switch on my little sps reef from a 250watt halide from which i received immense colour and growth to a radion XR30 unit, lucky me i didn have to start on low setting as its full intensity is same as 250watt halide....so im gna follow this thread for support on the venture, but as to elec saving , LEDs is the definate way to go,im nw gettn same light @ a fraction of the elec cost,so in end of day, unit pays itself off

Have you done a calculation on how much electricity you could have bought for the price of the Radion and how long it would have lasted running the MH?

I am sure it will be. Just curious on how long it is till you start seeing the savings.

One must also take in to account the replacement costs of the bulbs/tubes every year or so

leds are said to run +- 6yrs without loosing intensity and very cheap to replace once it reaches expiry

Also take into consideration rising electricity costs.

    thanks for the replies guys,

to be clear i dont want to see tanks that are changed from hailide or T5 to LED, i want to see it started with LED.. i want to check a few things.. diatom blooms etc and assess the cycle the tank goes through.. i also want to see mostly what the livestock looks like..

Greg you need to update your LED build thread... i need to see what my options are ;)

Hey Les it's on hold for now as I'm in the process of checking out a reef angel and it will then replace the typhoon controller so I don't want to build it then modify it a few weeks later. I want a pro looking unit.
