Would like to know and see how many reefers run their tanks on natural salt water, what they dose etc. Maybe post a pic and a quick run down of what you dose. Think it would be intersting to see how many guys actually run their tanks on NSW.

Ill start with mine. I use nsw which I collect twice a week and do water changes on the same day. I dose Ca(10ml) and Mg(5ml), twice a week, ph buffer stabilizer and alkalinity supplement on every water change, strontium(5ml) maybe once a week and maybe iodide(4ml) once a week and special blend, once a week.

You adding that due to consumption rates or deficiency in the nsw?

When my tank ran I did a 100L water change every week with NSW, I think most oaks in PE use nsw

I don't have corals so no dosing for me...

Mine is NSW, change btw 50 and 200 lt every 2 weeks. Depends how energetic I feel on that day.

Dosage is simple. 5 mg bio calcium (tropic marine thanks @Tony) every night, that reminds me I need to add that now. This is both cal and alk supplement. About 20 drops of iodine each night.

Each morning is 7ml mg (kent).

Im adding it mostly due to consumption rates @irie ivan. The Ca of the nsw is a bit on the low side. I think its 410 if I remember correctly. Ph is also a bit low.Ive got about 9 sps corals in my tl550.

I have a SPS only reef and I only use NSW.

I use Biopellets in conjuction with biodigest from prodibio
Dose a Lot of MG, Alk and Ca daily to keep the parameters of mg 1290 ca 410 alk 7.4

I also dose strontium every second week and K whenever my test kit says so.
I also dose 8 drops of Postassium Iodide from Korallenzucht every Monday and friday

And I do a water change once a month!

    Awesome stuff,

Where is the best location to collect nsw in Durban area, do you guys find the nsw parameters low from different locations.

I read a post that Winkels pool is the best location as the water is filtered thru a sand filter?

I found that our saltwater in Hermanus has got a sg of 1029. So I have to add some r/0 water to get my sg the way I want it. I collect on low tide where I wallk +-60m on rocks to get to really nice clean water.ill post a pic. Of the spot I collect.

I think its time to revive this thread on tanks running on NSW. Been a few discussions on NSW lately. Whether collected from Two Oceans, Ushaka or from any coast. Lets see some more pics of setups on NSW. Pics from where you collect and your tanks would be awesome. Ive added a pic of mine and also from where I collect , to start it off.

Im lucky that I can get very clean, almost nutrient and phosphate free water, CA is a bit low - 380ppm, salinity a bit high- SG @ 1.028. All other parameters in check. Been collecting here for 4 years now.
