    hi all
i am new to the masa website. i am keen to get started on a new tank and have heard that there is loads of info available from members on this site.
being cost effective is a concern and i have heard that AQUA H2O in JHB is selling there stock at half price to the public.
does anyone know whether this is true?
lastly, where is the best place to purchase livestock?
    regards

Not 100% sure but i think Aqua H2O tanks are known for bursting...... just check up on the forum a bit first, i am sure one of the sponsors in CT can quote you on a decent custom tank .... i know there is a cube for sale at a good price in CT in the for sale forum here as well !!

Welcome to MASA. glad you joined. There is some reading for you in my signature on starting a marine tank - great info!

The AquaH20 are known to burst, it happened to a couple of reefers already and there is actually a thread started on this. No wonder they sell them at half price :whistling:
Give Frans a call at Dorry pets in CPT - he will sort you out ;)

    Tanks

thank you all for the warm welcome
and the advice regarding the tanks. i have been phoning around and heard that the problem was only with the 2 - metre tanks, the glass was apparently to thin (12mm) and then they changed it to 19mm.
what about the aqua h2o pumps, any problems with those?

    Welcome to the forum.
How are you going to get the tank from JHB to CT?

Welcome! Well its not just Aqua H2O, its tanks with curved glass that bend to break... They are tempered or something which makes them more prone to breaking... Just make sure that there are no sudden water temperature changes in the tank (water changes) and it should be ok... I have an Aqua h2o and so far its going strong (pray to god that it stays that way). Having said this, I wouldv never bought it if I knew that some of them break! :whistling: .. Actually had some nightmares in which my tank burst :p ... just dont ignore any cracks or chips! ;)

Welcome. i agree with neil they are known for bursting reason being that the glass is quiet thin.As to good livestock, most stores has there bad days. When purchasing livestock always observe the fish closely and also all the tanks connected to that system. Before purchasing a tank first get a list of the equipment needed to run that system eg skimmer lights pumps etc.the bigger the tank the bigger the whole in your pocket.the best advice would be to follow your budget.

    Transport

    hey viper357
Bringing one tank via courier, will prove to costly. Was going to find a few friends maybe interested in tanks and make the AQUA guys an offer. Have had some good responses and some bad. Still haven't made a decision yet.

    Welcome to MASA!!

I had a 1.2m Aqua h20 tank that burst on me in October last year. Please reconsider this option. The tanks are great to look at but that constant reminder of the possibility that it can burst is not worth it.
