base is an issue for the sump needs a square tube in the middle for the plank you will put in to rest the sump on, rest is fine

I think 32mm square tubing should do the job?

This was a stand designed by a fellow reefer for when i was battling with my stand, be sure to use a thick walled steel as it will reduce the flex also plenty of gussets...My stand is way overdone for my tan but it gives me piece of mind

There are a lot of quality and practical stands built by MASA members that work well, have a look on the forums.

    I built my stand(100 x 60 x 80) with 50 x 50 x1.6 SQTube and galvanised it(R860-00 for galvanising) and it is strong enough plus corrosion proof.
The drawback is extra money to clad the stand to hide the plumbing, yet again there are members with awesome cladding.

The wood option depends on the type of wood you buy, using melamine or solid wood with the correct supports it is strong enough and no worry about corrosion.

In both cases care should be taken to support the middle of the bottom panel, there is a tremendous amount of pressure on that panel.

It boils down to cashflow, taste and DIY skills.

32mm for that size is not enough, you'll need a support in the middle and that will restrict your access to your sump.Look at Hammerhead's stand, even he has a center support and by the looks of it that is 50 x 50 SQ Tube.Like he says it is peace of mind.

Another thing is to measure your skimmer inside the sump and to make sure you can remove the skimmer from the sump when the sump is placed underneath the tank.
