    Hi Guys,

So I have setup the Boyu TL-550 with live rock, water etc, letting everything cycle. While that is going I am planning the construction of the 1.5m stand,

    The tanks dimensions are L 150cm x W 50cm x H 60cm.

    http://www.marineaquariumsa.com/picture.php?albumid=855&pictureid=9252

    I plan on using 50mm x 76mm structural pine,

    4 x 1400mm
    4 x 600mm
    4 x 880mm
    6 x 728mm
    2 x 500mm

Then for the top and bottom shelves using 18mm Shutterply

    2 x 1500mm x 600mm

total cost is R640. excluding sealers, screws, etc.

Once the stand is complete I will wrap it, still deciding on what I am going to use, but this will give me the base.

Do you guys think this stand will be enough to hold the tank and sump?

@TheGrove wrap it with shutter ply and before painting use sanding sealer it helps with water and if you going to varnish use a polyurethaune varnish helps with water damage

Okay so made some progress last night,

Thanks for the advice, will be sealing the entire stand and then also silicon the edgings, did the same with my last 3 stands and had no issues so should be all good. Will be wrapping the stand in Ply and then making cutouts in the back for fans to circulate air for the sump and electrical.

I just need to go get 3 posts trimmed a bit then will finish the base build tonight and start tightening the screws and making them flush.

Thanks, just slipped up with the tank, bought a tank off Gumtree and didnt check it properly, turned out to be 8mm laminated glass, so it's too thin for that size and also can't drill it.

trying to negotiate with the guy to take the tank back and give me half the cash back. :(

Okay so finished the ply wrap. Busy just cutting all the trims to length, filling and sanding the ply.

Got the cupboard doors and handles one. Once all the final touches are complete I am going to seal, paint and silicone the edges.

The only thing I underestimated was how heavy the damn thing is, takes four guys to carry :)
