Bought a JBJ 24G last week that came with a MH and a skimmer. Here's what I plan to do in the next few months :)

The stand will be all supawood construction with dowels (that should make it sturdy enough). I've also oversized the stand for the JBJ as i'm planning for a 600 x 600 x 500 cube a little later on next year. Inside the cabinet is space for the ATU reservoir and a 530 x 530 x 30 salt mixing tank. Once I migrate to the 600 x 600 x 500 it'll become the sump :)

The light pendant can be raised and lowered and will house a 150w MH + 2 x 36w PC's (222w in total and I should get a decent overall balance). Fans are in both teh hood and just under the MH, hopefully this will be enough to keep teh weight down. Was debating on putting in LED's but i'm using what i've got now from the JBJ hood and the old MH to keep the costs down.

Will supawood be durable enough for this? any other suggestions ?? Oh and looking to do it all in ebony not the cherry.

R750 for the JBJ 24G with the original hood + MH + MH stand + Red Sea skimmer. Good deal.

This still needs to be built though. I rate itll cost about R1000 to R1200 for the stand but its future proofed so that's a good thing :)

Thanks Leslie ;) better than pencil to paper :)

Some updates here. Made the new Halide stand and sanded and resprayed the unit with heat resistant rustoleum. Although I must say I prefer the matt black look, I just know its going to look crap after a week with SW. Can I spray a normal matt or satin matt on top of the rustoleum?

Heres some before and after pics. Also i've replaced the Geismann Megachrom Blue (it looked purple to me) with a Dymax 10k.

Btw this is temporary solution until I decide whether to stay with halide for the main light or move to LED. I'm swaying towards LED just need some moola :)
