Hi all.
I'm in Ballito looking for some algae eating snails. Will these guys do the trick? Are they reef safe?

The two on the right are Forskalii.
Let them go, they are predators on mostly worms.

The green on the left, part of the turbinidae family. I found these to die easily. They do not transport very well.

The tiny ones in the middle are great. But hermits take them out easily.

nope sorry.

There is only one hermit which I trust 100%. That would be the yellow tip hermit. Clibanarius virescens.
They are small and do not bother corals. I got loads of them.

Next up would be the blue eyed hermit. Calcinus laevimanus. They grow bigger and can be all over some corals.

Just google the names.

Thanks RiaanP. I actually managed to collect both today. And a quick Google I see you can buy them very cheaply overseas.. why we never get them here is beyond me.

Not supposed to be able to buy them here. They are local and should not be collected and sold.

The ones you do find at times in the shops comes from Kenya. They are found there as well. So yes we do get them sometimes. But it is so much more fun to collect your own hermits. Just get your license.
