ok so have decided to make my own tank

2400x600x600 is the size of my tank, i intend to baffle the short side of the tank for the overflow and to use 2x durso stand pipe's. If i use 10mm glass on the sides and only have the tank filled to 570mm i get a safety factor of 2.8 which is in the yellow according to the glasscalculator. The problem is using 10mm for the base , its very weak, so instead of using 15mm at three times the price i want to use 2x sheets of 10mm , shall i buy some of that double sided sticky plastic and laminate the glass together ?? or just place them ontop of each other with nothing inbetween ?

the problem is the drilling of the holes for the durso stand pipes , i can have both sheets drilled but water will seep between the two sheets depending on what bulkhead i use ?

    ideas ?

Blackrat 15mm for the base is a must!! it need to be thick to carry the water . 10mm for the sides with brazing is pushing your luck but it will work.
laminated glass panels will not leak when you drill a hole thru it the plastic inside Will seal it completely.

Dude rather spend the extra cash on the 15mm, other wise you might become MASA's new "DIY tank base replacer"

do you really think that 15mm is going to be better than 2 sheets of 10mm ?
1 sheets of 15mm is 3 times the cost as it needs to be imported .... R2330 for the single piece :-S

what about going with a 50mm concrete base ? ... surely there is more than one way to skin a tank (cat) har har anyway ....

Concrete can work but make sure to use reinforcing.
