    Hi Guys,

Please can someone guide me here,

Looking at adding a plywood and high density foam possibly between tank and metal stand

Could this cause any cracks ?

Why do you want to add plywood?

The idea behind adding plywood/MFD/chipboard is to add extra support to the structure. Tanks can be constructed by using very thin bases, both in glass and acrylic, if they are adequately supported.

There are disadvantages of using plywood as a support. Swelling when wet is one. This is not that much of an issue when acrylic is used but a big issue when glass is used.

IMO Polystyrene is better when a tank is placed on a hard rough surface such as a concrete plinth.

To give better advice more information is required.
Size of tank, thickness of glass all round and stand design with bracing/thickness of material.
