I have a brace in the middle of my tank that is a little wider than I would like. The tank is 700x450x450 and looks like it's made of 5mm glass. The brace is currently 10cm wide.

I want to replace my T5s' with LED's and think this brace is going to stop the light penetrating the middle of the tank.Would it be ok to take the brace off and add two 5cm braces with a gap in the middle to allow more light through?

i think i will have to drain the the tank before u do any removing of braces or have the risk of the tank cracking

You'll have to empty it to do the job, otherwise do the 2 x 5cm bracing whilst the 10cm is in place. Cause the glass will bow/flex if you remove the brace with the water in.

Will defiantly empty first, planning on re-scaping so will be best anyway. Is there any limit how far apart the braces can be?

Eish, I don't want that happening.

This is all your fault anyway, you and your damn LED's

I bought the tank off a fellow MASA member over a year ago the way it is now, the glass is only 5mm, how thick is yours? I do have bracing on the sides already. Probably best not to take the chance though.

I'd say divide your tank in three make sure silicone is dry before topping with water again...

    based on:

Will do. I have a nice 100L container so can keep my livestock in there overnight or for a day for it to dry properly.

may tank has 10mm glass hence why they cloud brace on the sids and get away with out the middle

i don't know about changing the strength of the bracing but dividing it may course problems move the the middle one and a few more braces over the top but the best ask will be @adraain @idolmarine he builds tanks for a living
