Hey guys. I need some help. Im currently doing my honours in internal auditing and I was talking to my one buddy who is already a certified internal auditor.. The crap news she gave me (well crap for a reefer) is that you are often out of town. She said sometimes you are away from mo-fri in CPT, sometimes you could be gone for 3 weeks to Zambia.

Now hopefully Ill start working next year, but now as you already figured being away for weeks on end and having a sps tank is not cool. So either I will have to give up the hobby for quite a while or at least quit sps. I really dont want to give up my tank :( . I put in so much into this hobby.

So can you guys give me any ideas as to what I can do with regards to tank automation. I have a dosing pump so thats pretty much sorted for dosing Ca, Alk and Mg.

@Yuri is that avast zeovit reactor out yet?

There must be some people here who travel a lot as well. Thanks. Please tag me in a reply as Im going to be out today so I will only see this thread later.

Im running zeovit at the moment. So unless that new avast reactor comes out soon I would probably have to change the filtration
@dallasg hows your no3 and po4 absorbing cubes going?

you can use a cylinder to push down the zeovit
you even get cylinders with magnetic limits ad sum timers and you are set

Why not get a tank sitter if you are gone for a few weeks. Just a thought.

I am away from home often, there is no way to get around a tank sitter.

There are skimmer chambers, filter socks etc that one just won't get away from having to do.

Don't know about you but my one x4 profilux doser is just dedicated to zeo stuff....

My profilux system alone is well worth over R30k and I am still no where close to total automation....

im away often and leave my tank to its own devices, with someone comming in to feed every second day. My tank handles it realy well BUT i have a deliberatley low bioload and a very well matured biological filtration so my only automation is top up. without a low bioload and softies/lps I would think you need a sitter, someone who can atleast turn a skimmer back on after the maids turned it off!

Hey guys.. After thinking about it for a while I realised its not so bad. I just need to get a bigger Ro container that can last forever and a better ato with two sensors. Then My dad can feed the fish and Ill get him to pump the zeo reactor once a day. I can get another marine magic doser then that can dose zeostart and I could also get it to dose other zeo stuff.. I got big containers for the Ca, Mg and Alk mixtures. At the moment I put enough to last the month.
@dallasg that sounds really cool man. I need to come check your tank out sometime

Something you might consider is a monitoring system of some sort, just to keep an eye on Ph etc... Reef angels are very well priced.p and you can monitor it over the net or on your phone.

I certainly was thinking about something like that, but I honestly never had a Ph problem, but still it will probably help to keep my mind at ease
