    Hi.

So I have a Sailfin Tang (Zebrasoma Veliferum) and a Brown Tang (Zebrasoma Scopas) in my DT at the moment.

I would like to add more tangs, so I bought a Yellow (Zebrasoma Flavescens) a few weeks back.

The Yellow cannot be put in the DT, I have tried all the tricks everyone mentioned, Lights out - Mirror in the tank - Changed the scaping - I have tried it all..

Next step is to catch the Sailfin and the Brown tang after lights out when the fish are in "Sleep" mode .. sailfin is easy, Brown Tang is clearly some sort of a genuis, as the fish hides when anything moves , even in complete darkness..

Catching them can be done, with some effort I guess, my question now is - If i add the yellow when the Sailfin and Brown tang is out, will they not fight again.. If you leave them out for a week, won't they simply fight again once re-introduced?..

Also, Next tang I want is a Purple - will I have this same war then again? Then its 3 fish I have to catch (If that is going to work) ..

    Any suggestions ?

Dont mix zebrasomas dude, you are going to have problems. How big is your DT? Rather steer clear of the purple tang as its pretty aggro. I would look at getting a different genus

I have a Sailfin (boss), Scopa (big boss), Blond Naso (in between) and Chocolate (mellow dude). Not nice, aggression levels keep on going up. Now they are split. Blond and Chocolate is together both being the lesser aggressive of them all. The Sailfin and Scopa moved to another system. Now its better.

Scopa, even being smaller than the sailfin, is more aggressive. I doubt it if you will be able to keep a yellow plus a purple in the same tank as a scopa. Not when they are bigger than 100mm. Unless you are running a 2.8m system.

i have a sailfin, scopa, yellow and will be adding a purple aswell..
i introduced them from small to big.. had good luck with the mirror effort and after i release a new fish i leave the net hanging into the tank then everyone behaves.. after a couple of hours everyone friends.. did it yesterday. added a blonde naso and i have a naso too. naso just showed off for an hour or so. now they friends..

please note i am not a pro, i believe we all are students in this hobby. what works for you might not work for me and vice versa, i am merely offering info from my personal experience.

    good luck,
    cheers

I think people can forget just how aggressive tangs can be just because they are "herbivores"

fully agree with above statement but also take into consideration that the more meaty foods you feed them the more aggressive they will become. so take the food type you feed into consideration aswell. no point in feeding a high meat diet then complaining about agression. just my 2c. not saying anyone is complaining or feeding incorrectly. :)

First question is, how big is the display? If the display is large enough, i would add all 3 to a strange enviroment (another tank) then after a couple of weeks when they are used to living together then add them back to the DT.

interesting.. can you elaborate more on this?

in general when mixing tangs it needs to be well planned and even then there is gaurantee it will work..

i had 3 yellows together for a number of years (that i gave to my brother in law0 i had in the meanwhile purchased another single yellow..

when i added them to the system they were all fine but eventually the one became more dominant and fought with the 4th (one not from the origional trio)..so i removed it.. now he has turned on one of the tangs fro the origional 3.. after being together for almost 4 years..

    my current tang status is

    1 x purple
    1 x regal
3 x yellows (1 of which needs to be removed bt hes also very elusive to catch)

tangs are herbivores, so while they graze they pick up some pods and stuff. this provides the meat in their diet. by feeding mainly meaty foods and less greens the aggressiveness increases. i have seen this in my tank. about a month back i put them on a strict green diet for a while and the are doing lekker now again.

    @RiaanP
    3 Regals - 2 x 5.5cm, 1 x 4.5 cm
    1 Sailfin - 8cm
    1 yellow - 7cm
    1 scopa - 5cm
    1 Blonde Naso - 8cm
    1 Naso - 5cm

    @RiaanP
    they are currently in a 2m x .6 x .6

    in the pipeline is an upgrade to a 4m x .6 x .6

probably in the next year or so. will it still be a problem?

i have seen a selection of tangs up to 30 and 40 cm each in a setup for years.
of wich there are 2 sailfins in it one at app 20+ cm and another at 30 +cm
the tank they are in is 2m x 1m wide x 1.5m high
