don't think t8 have sufficient power to really grow corals
T8 takes up to much space. in the same space under your canopy where you can fit 4 T8 tubes, you can fit 6 or more T5. Have a lot more light available.
The reason I ask is, I have a 4ft tank with a LED unit think it's about about a 72w white and blues mixed.
There was a similar unit for sale in CT.
I'm worried it's not enough coverage fir my tank,so I have, mate that has had his stuff in storage for ages and has offered to give me his T8 unit just a 2tube unit.
Was thinking of fitting the infront of.the Led unit to help give better coverage.
So I'm investigating and asking the Q's be4 I go through the process of puttingvthem in IF I even do.
I had 2 t8 in my 4 foot so i modified the canopy and fitted a quad t5 unit 54watt but posted today if my t5 was enough for my lps and sps.
I asked the same question the other day on another forum. Sounds like there is quite a difference in the actual output of the globes. I am currently running leds and t8 mix and am going to change over to t5 when my wallet allows me to. Think the t8 i currently have are just fuelling my algae growth. It is still alot better looking have the led hybrid thing going though just seems to add that little extra.
And the t8s are so freaking cheap
Hear you bud
