    Hey all,

So I've been running my lil low tech nano on CFLs and two T8 actinics for a while now, and while all my softies have been growing wonderfully, and my LPS has been good, I am seriously thinking of biting the bullet and going T5. I wanted to know what globes I should get.

Plan would be to keep the T8 actinics until the globes expire and then switch those over to T5 as well.

So, what lighting should I get on the tank?

Its a standard two footer, 70L tank, with a fairly deep sand bed (about 7cm)
    dimensions: +- 62x32x30

I would like to keep easier SPS in the very upper reaches, but mostly softies and LPS.

    prices? kalvin?

    THANKS! :)

Best bet is the 24W tubes. Get 2 dual ballasts with some 14K tubes and you should be ok. Maybe 2X 12K, 1 X 14K and 1 actinic. Swop the 14K for a 20K is you like a bluer tank.

    Thanks marius.

Any other input? What about two 6500k and two 20k. Are four 24w not too much for such a small tank? And whats the price difference for the 2ft and the 3ft tubes?

    my 2c.
with t5 you can stagger the on/off time with 2 timers, with mh it is all on at once (unless you spend big and go dimmable with controller).
6400k will be yellow, 20k is blueish, the gap between to much in my opinium.
    i would get 2x10k 2x20k,
    OR 1x6400, 1x12k, 2x20k,
    OR 1x6400, 1x10k, 1x12k, 1x20k
    personally i would not get a 6400
you can change the 20k for corel blue(reeftek) or actinics.

if you get/build a light unit with individual reflectors then 4 2foot t5's will be great, individual reflectors makes a huge diff, and power use with 24w less also.

Seen as though your tank doesn't have a large water volume or a chiller I would advise against a MH. Your fish will get cooked instantly. I think you could get away with 2 T5's for now along with the T8's. I would personally go for 12000K T5's and then maybe bluer T8's.

    Thanks neo, manic.

Two T5s for growth with the old t8s to blue things out a bit is more along the lines I was thinking.

So, how about 2x 24w 12k T5s added to the old 2x T8 actinics? (The actincs are Hagen Marine-glo)

That would be plenty light for your tank. Would probably even support a monti if it was high up.

    Dangerous road you heading down....

I agree with manic, go for two 12000K t5s along with your actinic t'8s. Then at a later stage replace the t8s with two 20000k t5s.

Dane, don't take this the wrong way but I think the limit for your tank would be a monti. I find birdnest's hard to take care of.

No offense taken at all manic! Thank you for your input! :) I was thinking a lot further down the road of the birdsnest... I'm really really really really like green birdsnest. And confusa... and.... oh dear...
