Yah....its one of those days....when you wake up to a dead fish tank

what happened is that the light i used over my cheato fell in to the water and shorted out the power to the multi plug that feeds the tank. im assuming this happend around during the night, anyways i woke up and saw that my tank was off so i reset the plug and switched the power only to hear a big bang sound ( not reliazing that the light fell into the water) anyways when i did get the system running and found all my sps turned white and clams were releasing alot of white stuff and were closed and all my snails and most of my hermits were either dead or dying... also all my open brain corals were showing there skeletons and my mushrooms and rics were looking like they are one there way out. on a positive note my fish are all alive except the dotty back which is missing.

THIS SUCKS....i really feel like closing this tank down and just giving up the hobby .

i smell deth in that tank... my skimmer is going mad so i switched it off for now, im just busy making ro water so i can do a water change this afternoon.

Sorry to hear about the crash !

is there something wrong with the skimmer?.... if not i suggest you put it back on.... Also are you running activated carbon ... may be worth putting that in and running it for a couple of days ?

    Sorry to hear this!

    1. remove anything dead.

    2. get that skimmer up ASAP

    3. Get as much air as you can into the water, use airstones, power heads with the air lines connected, just get the O2 in the water.

    4. Do a water change!

    5. Stick in there!

IS THERE NOT ANYONE THAT CAN HELP JUNZ OUT!

Advice given by tony on another thread.... perhaps worth trying, I have no experience with this though

"You can also add 5ml of 30 percent hydrogen peroxide per 100 litres every four hours to help with oxygenation. It breaks down into water and oxygen"

Sorry to hear man, that sucks :(
After all is sorted I suggest you get a backup system. It is clear now that even though escom doesn't loadshed anymore (for now) things can still go wrong. That will prevent this from happening again ;)

im so sorry to hear about you're crash. You have all my sympathy
similiar thing happended to me about 4 months ago. also wanted to give up, but didnt. Things will get better...
For know, in my experience, do a huge waterchange. I did a 50% change 3x in one week. think that's what saved remaining stock i had in my tank. Also oxygen is very imported, put lots of airstones in if you have. And def switch on the skimmer, it helps removing the Sh**t. I had to clean mine twice a day in the first week.
Good luck, my thoughts are with you

This is really sad. Hope you do get some of your stock revived again.
Try not to switch the skimmer off and have it running on wt skimming, and try and get a very fast return (waterflow) from your sump to the tank for the time being. It will circulate the whole system faster, removing a lot of dead critters etc from under the rocks etc- but do put filterfloss. If you have carbon running inside a cannistor, change it as well. And keep the lights in the sump off for a day or two so that your critters can multiply (you do not have much left in the sump, so it will only benifit)

eish that sucks i know the feeling, had a similar situation last year when my nephew threw nesquick and ink and a whole tin of fish food and who knows what else into my sump....hang in there bro just let the tank run in for a few months after the initial clean up dont waste too much time on it.i know you gatvol right now but you'll get your groove back by letting the few survivers stay on......
