My wife bought me this IQ3 as a birthday present and I decided to start building it up. If anything I'm using it as a learning experience and so far it's really helped me research alot and get dilligent with water chamistry and testing.

Tank is just cycling at the moment with the lights off while i research research research and do a few mods.

    Equipment:
    Dymax IQ3 Acrylic 7L aquarium
    Dymax 300lph return pump (included)
2 X Dymax Robot LEDs (thinking of adding another LED light - not Dymax)
    1 X 50w ViaAqua heater
0.5 to 1 inch sugar fine fiji pink aragonite

    Filtration:
    about 0.5kg LR
removed the sponges and such from the rear compartments
    Purigen (will add after cycle)
    Phosguard (will add after cycle)
    Carbon (will add after cycle)

    Parameters:
    Last test date: 11/08/2010
Temp: 26 (suprisingly stable - i anticipated more hassle with this)
    SG: 1.026
    PH: 8.2
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: 0
    Nitrate: 0.1

    Stocking:
Planning on adding the following fish/inverts:
    1 Damsel
2 Sexy shrimp (if i can find them) else 1 cleaner
    1 hermit

    Corals:
    Shrooms
    Zoas
    Maybe Xenia
    Maybe GSP

Some more pics of extra rock added. Used some aquamend type stuff to 'glue' them together in kind of a cave island thingy. First time I've ever used this putty stuff so please don't be too harsh on my aquascaping skills...

the piece on the top is the new rock (btw, can anyone identify that grassy looking stuff on there?)

    WELCOME SUPERFROG!!!!

I just love the whole PICO thing that has popped up lately!!!

If however I may ask, what is your reefing experience? Not to offend you PLEASE!! I just want to make sure you know about keeping these VERY small systems healthy and happy... If you are not sure, please do not hesitate to ask, we will help you to the best of our ability...

Your planned stock levels looks good, but I would just hang on with introducing any fish at first. Just let it run, and see whether the filtration can cope with whatever else you have in the tank. Fish give huge bio load on systems, and this is only a 9litre system if I am correct right?

So just let the tank settle a bit first...

Good luck though on this voyage, and remember that on these small tanks water changes are key!!! If you can, do 10% bi-weekly. I am certain you will then have a flourishing IQ3!!!

Thanks for the kind comments/advice from everyone.

I'm not entirely new to reefkeeping but I wouldn't say I'm seasoned either (and no offense taken at all ;)). I have been researching and reading and surfing for around six or seven months now...planning a little setup of my own. Prior to that I'd dabbled a bit in marine a few years back when everything crashed (owing to a serious lack of research/knowledge on my part). I've been keeping freshwater aquariums for many many years and have learnt so much more about the specifics of marine since my last disasterous foray...

So from all this research I have learnt one thing for sure...this tiny setup is going to be waaaaaay more challenging than a bigger one. I'm well aware of the pitfalls, etc. but looking forward to the challenge!!! :yeahdude:
Will defintiely be asking loads of questions as I go along. And let's hope it pays off!!!

Not planning to get a fish until after the whole setup is complete and stable. Definitely want to establish this 9Lt (yes you are correct Jaco) coral haven first.
So I've got lots of time to plan for a fish, if I even do add one.

welcome to masa nice to have you join:)

weldone on that cave structure it looks good for that tank and it will add a good habitat for those sexy thors if you add them. Just a note though with sexy shrimp they often host in a coral so make sure that you get one they can host in. Not so much for the shrimp but it will add greatly to your enjoyment of the tank.

looking good so far and hopefully you have a pain free cycle :)

    ok quick update...

The tank seems to be doing well now. All parameters nice and stable. Was planning on doing weekly water changes but since it's soooo easy to do I might just do it twice a week wednesday/sunday going forward. Now if i can just find the darn float switches i can sort the ATO!!!! :(

Had a small piece of LR leaning up against the rear of the cave structure so I decided to get a bit creative and stick it on as well (will post a pic soon).

In the meantime, went frag browsing this weekend and bought 2 little florida rics. Also went to my regular LFS and got some tiny single polyps and a single mushroom for free...courtesy of Bryan, the world's friendliest LFS owner over at Jungle Aquatics! Thanks again Bryan :wave2:

free mushroom. noticed the rock has 2 tiny featherdusters on it as well...

The suspects...all waiting to be attached to the rock...

so far they all seem to be doing well. opened up nicely and colours are looking good! will post a FTS with the newer scape later...

    quick update...

the samller blue/purple/green ric has fanned out nicely and is looking quite happy...

pic of the rear compartment holding the bags of purigen and sea-gel. You can see a bit of the false floor/bridge thing i built to keep the bags suspended and off the bottom of the compartment so no dirt/debris collects there...also helps with getting the bags out as you just grab the side handle thingy's and lift and walla! the bags come to you...

hermit out for a walk and stopping to smell the palys lol
    [IMG]

made a tiny adjustment to the aquascape. Think this will provide some varied coral placement spots as well as a different look to the cave structure. My hermit definitely likes the view from up there...he's king o da hill!

Waiting for Mr LFS (that's you Bryan  ) to get the Rio Mini sun fixture in stock so I can add a third light on there. In the meantime, next project is a small moonlight fixture, just for some added flair

sooooo, picked up this frogspawn on saturday. doing quite well and should be even better once I add the other light on. It had 4 nice heads on it but i knew immediately 4 was a bit much in here especially since one of the heads wasn't getting much light and wasn't opening as much as the others. so i fragged it after...

4 heads after drip acclimation and adding to the tank

    20 minutes after acclimation...

    fragged down to 2 heads
